President Ulysses S Grant’s Detroit home to be moved across town

The Detroit home of America’s 18th president, Ulysses S Grant, is to be uprooted from its spot near the State Fairgrounds and moved across town. The house was lived in by Grant and his wife only for a year from 1849 to 1850 when the city was a small town of only 21,000 people, but the building’s age (it was constructed in 1837) makes it one of the oldest structures in the city. Now the fairgrounds have been sold for development, the historic home needs to move. Unconfirmed plans are for it to be placed in the Detroit Edison School Academy’s campus and opened as a museum.
