Chinese tourists slammed for committing ‘foot-paux’ in southern Thailand

Thai authorities were contemplating further etiquette training for tourists after images of Chinese holidaymakers washing their feet in hand basins on the island of Ko Phi-Phi surfaced on social media, causing outrage among Thais, who ensure feet are never cleaned in places where the rest of the body would be washed, except for the shower. The cultural breach was just the latest in a string of incidents that have drawn the attention of media and authorities to conduct by Chinese tourists considered offensive, forcing the Tourism Authority of Thailand to print Chinese-language pamphlets on how to behave at sites such as museums and temples, as well as driving and queuing etiquette.
