Traditional hard cheese from Nepal has found a new market overseas as an unlikely dog treat. Nepali curd cheese, known as churpi, has been prepared by yak herders in the Himalaya for centuries, and local cheese-makers are now exporting 300 tonnes of the cheese annually to pet food suppliers in the United States, Canada, Britain and Japan. Herders are said to be mystified that their traditional foodstuff is being sold as a dog treat, but are happy to find such a lucrative market for their produce. Read more: emirates247.com
