Some have likened it to an extra from The Walking Dead, others to the snake from Beetlejuice: for many the statue of Lucille Ball in her hometown of Celoron, New York, does little justice to the ‘I Love Lucy’ star, and now fans are calling for it to be removed. The life-size bronze statue has been a tourist draw in the town since 2009, with comedy pilgrims stopping by to have their picture taken with America’s queen of comedy, yet since 2012 there has been a Facebook page devoted to its removal. The ‘We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue’ group was started by a resident of Ball’s hometown, and thanks to a story on Yahoo! News this week, there has been renewed interest in the campaign. The group are calling on the original sculptor to redo or ‘fix up’ the original statue for free rather than replace it with a new one which could cost up to $10,000. Read more: reviewjournal.com
