Shipping companies keen to profit from the relaxing of travel regulations for US citizens and products to Cuba are gearing up to commence sailing routes from Florida. At least five companies have applied for US State Department licenses to make the crossing from the Sunshine State to the Caribbean island. Currently there are plans for a high speed catamaran service from the Florida Keys to Havana, as well as overnight sailings from Miami. ‘The growth opportunities are tremendous,’ says Alexander Panagopoulos, owner of Arista Shipping.
