An indefinite strike called by bus operators in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh is affecting 1.5 million commuters, with no end in sight for the dispute. Unions called the strike to support a demand for pay increases for the state’s 120,000 bus company employees, and only 1218 of 12,282 scheduled bus services were on the road on Thursday. So far, the government’s main response has been to arrange emergency drivers to allow some bus services to run, and to request additional train services on the state’s railways.
