Domestic air services in Nepal are being cut back to a skeleton service because of fuel shortages caused by India’s blockade of Nepal’s southern border.

Nepal has already restricted supplies of aviation fuel to domestic aircraft, forcing international carriers to stop elsewhere to refuel, and more than half of all domestic flights have been cancelled for the last two days. Nepal has issued a formal request to India to end the blockade, but this may depend on Nepal making changes to its constitution to give more power to the Madhesi community, which spans southern parts of Nepal and northern parts of India.
