A rare bottle of single malt whisky has been sold at auction in Sweden, fetching 216,000kr (US$24,982), making it the most expensive bottle ever sold in the country.

The Macallan Distillery, at Craigellachie in Speyside , Scotland, distilled the whisky in 1928 and it was bottled in 1983. Only 500 of the vintage bottles were ever produced and only a few are still in existence today. A spokesperson for Systembolaget, Sweden’s state-run alcohol company, were unable to confirm whether the new owners bought it to add to a collection, or if they planned to enjoy a wee dram of the rare tipple.
