Elephant injures nine people at night safari in Thailand

A spooked elephant injured nine people in Thailand after it ran into a crowd at the Chiang Mai Night Safari.

An elephant was part of a parade on Saturday night when he ran suddenly into a crowd of people. Four tourists were seriously hurt, including having broken bones in their feet, but it is believed the people were mainly injured by a fleeing crowd and only was person was injured by the elephant, reports Khaosod English.

The animal park is open both day and night, but in the evening visitors can see the animals from open-sided trams. There are animal shows and musical fountains.

According to media reports, the night safari has offered some compensation, will cover medical expenses, and gave the injured lifetime passes to the show. The park has also put up barriers as well as temporarily banning elephants from the parade.

The elephant was also treated for injuries as he had crashed into a barrier.
