British theme park crash rollercoaster to reopen next year

A crash at a British theme park was caused by ‘human error’, according to an internal investigation.

In June a crash on the Smiler rollercoaster injured 16 people, two of whom underwent leg amputations. The enquiry found that safety protocols at Alton Towers were not followed, but that there were no mechanical problems with the ride itself. Alton Towers is Britain’s most popular theme park, with around 2.5 million visitors a year. The Smiler could be running again in early 2016, when the park reopens after its winter break.
