The national government in Delhi has given approval for bull-taming bouts to proceed in Tamil Nadu, as part of the Hindu festival of Jallikattu.

Unlike in Spain, the south Indian version of bull-fighting involves teams of young men, who compete to grab money from its hump. Rules are in place to protect both bulls and participants, and animals are rarely harmed in the process, though injuries to participants are common. Jallikattu was banned by the central government in 2011 but the ban was relaxed this year following widespread protests and a formal complaint from the government of Tamil Nadu.
