Costa Rican Tourism Minister Mauricio Ventura has announced that Costa Rica welcomed 2.66 million visitors in 2015, roughly the equivalent of half of the country’s entire population of 4.8 million.

According to the Costa Rican Tourism Board, tourism has brought in more than US$2.8 billion in revenue in 2015 (a US$256 million increase from 2014) and employs 600,000 people in the country.  The United States is the largest market for tourists, totalling 40% of all visitors, and nearly 400,000 European tourists visited last year as well.
