The wreckage of a ship dating back to the Bronze Age has been uncovered in the waters of the Hisarönü Gulf during underwater excavations in the Turkey’s Muğla’s Marmaris district.

The discovery comes as part of a larger initiative, which began in 2007, to explore Turkey’s underwater heritage. Professor Abdurrahman Harun Özdaş, project coordinator from Dokuz Eylül University, said that the ship is believed to have sunk in a large storm around 4000 years ago, making it one of the oldest to be discovered in this region.
