Moldova’s best-known and second-largest underground wine cellars, in the town of Cricova (15km north of capital Chişinău), have hosted a 10km Wine Run with around 200 participants.

The cellar’s tunnels are 100m underground, so runners had to carry torches through the darker sections. As a reward, everyone received a glass of mulled wine at the finish line. More than a million bottles of wine are held in Cricova’s tunnels, which date from the 15th century and have a total length of around 120km. Visitors can take a guided vehicle tour of the tunnels.
