Want a drone to carry your holiday home to any destination in the world? You’ll have to live another hundred years according to Samsung’s SmartThings Future Living Report.
The report envisions what a variety of aspects of life will look like in the future, written by space scientist Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock, academics, urbanists and futurist architects. The report was commissioned by Samsung’s SmartThings, a technology that allows people to remotely control things in their house like heating and lights through an app.
The report shows what looks like a best-case-scenario for the future, where space travel is possible and you can 3D-print delicious food at home.
It also takes a sunny view of the work week of the future, noting that the use of holograms for meetings will reduce travel and will “facilitate the potential for a reduced working week”.
That’s good news as there will be a lot more new vacations to try out. The technological advancements will allow for more leisure time and improvements in transport will give people the ability to have more experiences around the globe. In 2116, commercial space travel will be a reality and drones will be able to life a home to new areas – meaning you can travel anywhere from the comfort of your own home.
The architecture of the future will see super-skyscrapers, sub-aquatic and floating communities and subterranean ‘earth-scrapers’ built 25-storeys deep into the earth.
If you can’t get away to try some new cuisine, the report predicts “famous chefs will share 3D files of dishes that will be downloadable from the internet, to be printed at home”.
If it all seems a bit unlikely, the foreword of the report notes that “the environments we live in today are almost unrecognisable from those that existed just a century ago. The Internet is a great example of this”.
