Travel blogger Christy Woodrow is travelling around the world with a ‘Cinderella dress’ as part of a photo series intended to encourage people to travel solo.
Woodrow writes a blog called Ordinary Traveler and while many of the posts are about her travelling as a couple, she has also been to dozens of locations on her own.
She has been working on the photo series for about six months. Woodrow told Lonely Planet that she gets dozens of emails from readers who are scared to travel solo. She is hoping that the images will encourage people to “embrace their confidence, go explore, and view the world as a magical place”.
Woodrow writes in her blog that the idea for the project came after she went to a friend’s Disney-themed party and was requested to dress as Cinderella. After finding a dress fit for a princess at a discount, she decided she wanted to use the costume again.
“Every time I cram this gigantic dress into my suitcase or drag it along on a long hike, I tell myself I’m crazy,” she writes. “But once I see the resulting photos from each location, those hours of lugging around my heavy suitcase are easily forgotten”.
The images featured are taken in Nevada, Vienna, Canada and more.
While many people are focused on packing light on their travels, Woodrow hauls around her bright blue dress with the hope of spreading a message.
“There is a beauty in facing your fears and that is what I hope to convey with these images”.
