WOW Air launches flights connecting New York and Iceland for $99

Icelandic airline WOW Air is offering direct flights from Newark Liberty International Airport to Iceland for prices starting at $99 for flights beginning in November 2016.

WOW Air has been expanding its flights into the US, launching transatlantic services to Boston and Baltimore/Washington DC in 2015 and launching flights from San Francisco and Los Angeles this month. In addition to a $99 flight to Iceland, travellers can pay $149 to continue on from Iceland to 23 European destinations, including London, Paris, Amsterdam and Copenhagen. The service between Newark and Iceland will be available seven days a week. The airport is located in Newark, New Jersey, but is operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The flights will be serviced by Airbus A321-300 aircrafts, which are the first wide-body planes in Wow Air’s fleet. Each will be able to carry 350 passengers in a single-class and the seat pitch will be 30 inches, with 34 inches available at an additional charge.

“We are very excited to announce WOW air’s extension into New York,” said CEO Skuli Mogensen, in a statement. “Within a mere five years we have been able to connect twenty-nine destinations across Europe, the US and Canada with low-cost fares. The addition of New York, which is part of the country’s largest airport system, is another step into providing more affordable access to transatlantic travel for travellers in North America.”
