The most popular honeymoon destinations for 2018 revealed

These days, when it comes to planning a wedding, the honeymoon that follows the big day has increasingly become just as important as the event itself. For younger generations especially, travel has become an increasing priority, with a 2016 study conducted by Topdeck Travel and YouGov revealing that 36% of people aged between 18-35 would be willing to lower their wedding budget if it meant that they could travel more. And now, Pinterest (a site renowned for being a popular source of inspiration for people planning their nuptials) has shared its wedding trends report for 2018, revealing what destinations are proving the most attractive to couples soon to say “I do”.

The report is broken up into a number of different categories, outlining what kinds of engagement ring, hair and makeup, floral arrangements and cakes are proving the most popular on the site right now. In the honeymoon category, the results showed that three different and quite diverse destinations are currently proving to be a big hit. Coming out on top was Switzerland, which experienced a gigantic increase of 856% on last year when it came to people pinning as a honeymoon destination.

Another seemingly popular trend on the website was African safari experiences, which saw an increase of 219% on last year, while pins for Bali as a honeymoon spot saw an increase of 145%. Popular boards in the destinations category on Pinterest included the 20 best safari lodges and camps in Africa, the ten most beautiful towns in Switzerland and Bali’s hidden gems. Off-the-grid, chilled out bachelorette parties also shot up 187% on last year, showing an increased interest in relaxing experiences.

Switzerland’s popularity is not just limited to honeymoons however, with a brand new study compiled by U.S News and World Report ranking it as the best country in the world for 2018. Having interviewed 21,000 global citizens as part of the survey, Switzerland took the top spot, earning large points for its quality of life, business opportunities and the culture surround citizenship.
