Hokkaido village buried under 6ft of snow

Japanese troops have been sent to action in the nation’s north – to shovel paths to snow-blanketed houses in Rausu on the eastern tip of the island of Hokkaido. The Hokkaido village was the worst-hit part of Japan when a major snowstorm hit the country at the weekend, forcing railway operators to cancel nearly 100 train services across the nation.
