A trippy and magical animation may inspire you to visit Oregon

Oregon is a beautiful place, but a new ad channelling Studio Ghibli-style animation is hoping to convince travellers it’s a fantastical world.

While most tourism ads focus of shots of the most beautiful spots – frequently without any actual tourists in frame – this new ad from Travel Oregon breaks away from the formula with some very trippy animation.

The tourism group notes that the goal of the ad is to invoke the “magical feeling of being in Oregon”. The campaign is called “Only Slightly Exaggerated”, which is perhaps still a bit of a stretch as is shows whales floating through the sky. However, it does feature some of the state’s most beautiful natural features and outdoor activities like mountain-biking the North Umpqua Trail to swimming at Trillium Lake to hot air-ballooning over Willamette Valley wine country. The 90-second ad, featuring a score by the Oregon Symphony, may feature some pretty fantastical animation, but every spot is a place that can really be visited in Oregon.
