The isolated Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan has earned itself a spot in the Guinness Book of Records for the fastest mass tree-planting in history.

On 2 June 2015, volunteers planted 49,672 trees in one hour, creating a new forest covering 25 acres of land. Despite impressive government efforts to aid conservation, Bhutan is still vulnerable to deforestation, with threats ranging from firewood harvesting to forest fires, such as the one which destroyed a thousands acres of forest near Chuzom in early February.
