We won’t yada yada yada over the best part: It’s been 21 years since the so-called “show about nothing” aired its final episode, but Seinfeld fans don’t have to say goodbye just yet.
This fall, an immersive exhibit is coming to Manhattan, offering the show’s faithful following the chance to slip behind the curtain for a peek at one of the most critically acclaimed comedies of all time. Called The Seinfeld Experience, the attraction will have interactive displays featuring costumes, memorabilia, set recreations, and props, plus a retail store hawking experience- and show-specific merchandise – a neat tie-in to the 30th anniversary of the program’s premiere on July 5, 1989.
Even its namesake and star has signed off on the proceedings. “Because I am Seinfeld, for a long time I was the only person to actually have the Seinfeld experience. Now, these crazy Superfly people are going to make it so lots of people can interact with our silly ‘90s TV show,” Jerry Seinfeld said in a statement. “All I can say is, in the general context of the world we live in, this now seems completely normal.”
This isn’t the first time fans have been able to step through the doors of Jerry’s iconic TV apartment. In late 2015, as part of the show’s streaming deal with Hulu, a pop-up event took place in New York and Los Angeles, with thousands of people passing through for a glimpse at the famous living room set, as well as scripts, memorabilia, and more.
This year’s event, which comes courtesy of Superfly, the production crew behind Bonnaroo, and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will set up shop in the neighborhood of Gramercy, with tickets going on sale in the next few months. According to Superfly co-founder Jonathan Mayers, the exhibit will bring the show to life in an innovative way, “combining nostalgia with immersive entertainment, and getting fans closer than ever before to the show and its beloved characters.”
