Ireland already boasts the Guinness World Record for the tallest free-standing inflatable waterslide in the world in Co Westmeath, and now Dublin is getting in on the action with The Big Slide Home on 23 July.
In the first event of its kind in Ireland, a 260ft water slide will be constructed on Winetavern Street (near Christchurch Cathedral) in the capital’s city centre, and on the big day between 12 noon and 6pm, listeners of the radio station 98FM will have the opportunity to travel through Christchurch in slippery style.
Wannabe sliders will need to stay tuned to 98FM over the next couple of weeks in order to find out when they can go online and register for their wristbands. HB Ice Cream will be on site handing out free ice creams to cool down sliders on the day too.
Speaking about the Big Slide Home event, Lord Mayor of Dublin Brendan Carr said “Dublin City Council is delighted to be supporting this free family friendly event. It is the first time that the Waterslide attraction has come to Dublin city and I hope that Dubliners and visitors to the city will really enjoy this great summer event.”
The Big Slide Home is a family event that will offer the spectacle of the slide as well as a 10% discount at tourist attraction Dublinia to anyone wearing a wristband, with plenty to choose from also at the delicious food stalls on site. There will be changing facilities on site but no baggage storage so be sure to have someone with you to take care of your belongings while you slide.
