Feeling romantic? Here are the most popular proposal landmarks around the world

Proposing to someone is a huge deal, and most people put a lot of thought into planning when, and where, it will happen. UK wedding website, Hitched, recently carried out research into the most popular places to get engaged around the world by analysing over 10,000 proposal hashtags on Instagram, including #bridetobe and #engaged. Here’s what they discovered, so if your loved one is keen to go to one of these places in the near future, take the hint!

Hitched found that Disneyland Paris was in the top spot, with one in 500 proposals taking place here. That old Disney magic travels across the water though, as one in 555 proposals took place at Florida’s Magic Kingdom. Lovers of tranquillity took third place, as one in 625 proposals happened at the serene Centennial Lakes Park in Minnesota. It’s hardly surprising that the Eiffel Tower in Paris was the scene for one in 679 proposals, making it the fourth most-popular proposal location.

Perhaps inspired by romantic movies like La La Land, the Hollywood Sign was the fifth most popular choice. It was tagged in one in 1000 proposals, with the happy couples being able to overlook the bright lights of Los Angeles at the same time as gazing into each other’s eyes. Perhaps influenced by Carrie’s relationship with Mr Big, New York had two spots tying for sixth place – Central Park and Brooklyn Bridge. One in 1111 couples got engaged at these locations, which were both heavily featured in Sex and the City.

Unsurprisingly, the dramatic backdrop at Niagara Falls was the setting for one in 1250 proposals, making the Ontario landmark come in seventh place. Walt Disney’s Epcot Park came eighth with one in 1428 couples choosing there, possibly because of its magical nightly fireworks display, while Big Bear Lake in California, was the setting for one in 1666 special moments. And finally, proving that sunshine and love go hand-in-hand, one in 2000 hopefuls popped the question at Bondi Beach in Sydney.
