Tourism in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik is booming, thanks in no small part to the fact that seasons two through five of the hit TV series Game of Thrones have been filmed there. The picturesque coastal city and its famous stone walls have stood in for King’s Landing in countless scenes in the show, and a host of themed tours and memorabilia sellers have sprung up to meet demand from fans of the show who visit the city. The latest news is that a new Game of Thrones museum will be created on the city’s central Stradun street, featuring the original sword-encrusted throne from the series. According to Dubrovnik’s mayor the precious piece of memorabilia came at a surprisingly low price to the city’s coffers: ‘We purchased it for not much money, HBO practically gave it to us’.
