Indian millionaire Jerambhai Thesia, who made his wealth trading diamonds, has been putting his fortune back into the ground, literally, in his home village near Amreli in Gujarat.
After witnessing the plight of people in his water-starved home village, the businessman purchased heavy digging equipment and began digging a new channel for the Thebi river to provide the area with a reliable water supply. A quarter of the 8km-long channel has already been constructed, without any government assistance, and the new water supply will allow farmers to irrigate their crops year round once complete.
