The English spring is here (though nobody seems to have told the weather) and, to celebrate, English Tourism Week has a whole nine days (two bonus days because you’re worth it) of goodies to make you ditch the slippers and box sets and get out and explore. Here are a few of the highlights.
17 March
Take a tour of the Yorkshire Dales, following treasure hunts to explore the beautiful countryside.
18 March
London’s favourite floating attraction, HMS Belfast, has a weekend of activities planned to celebrate its 80th birthday.
19 March
Get a 10% discount voucher online and get shopping at Bicester Village’s 160 outlet stores.
20 March
Starting today and running until the 24th, you can visit Highgrove in Gloucestershire and get top gardening tips and a tour of the grounds from experts including the Prince of Wales’ Head Gardener.
21 March
Be first to visit one of England’s grandest houses as spectacular Waddesdon Manor opens its doors for the 2018 season.
22 March
It’s unlikely you’ll run out of English history to explore this week, but for a look at another country’s cultural heritage visit Liverpool and the terracotta warrior exhibition on display there.
23 March
Norwich isn’t short of wonderful attractions and the easiest (and cheapest) way to see them on the 23rd will be on a free open top bus tour.
24 March
Lincoln’s magnificent cathedral, plus several other city’s sights, will be free for visitors over the Discover Lincoln Weekend, with a street food festival keeping them fully fuelled up.
25 March
Round off the week with the unveiling of a statue (first in the world) of a true English icon, David Bowie in Aylesbury. The town where he debuted two of his most famous albums is posthumously thanking him with a statue featuring not one, but two figures of the great man: Bowie in 1973 and 2002.
