Lifeguards in the Andalucian coastal town of Marbella in Spain are lobbying for the city council to employ them year-round after a tragic incident last week in which three people drowned off one of the city’s beaches. The lifeguards, who at present are only employed during summer months, argue that Marbella – and Andalucia’s other coastal towns – are popular with tourists all year and the region’s beaches need constant surveillance.
