Mary Queen of Scots gets statue in her homeland

The first Scottish public statue of Mary, Queen of Scots has been commissioned. Despite her importance as a historical figure she has never been honoured with a Scottish monument. Mary became queen of Scotland when she was six days old, gave up the throne aged 24 and was executed by her cousin, Elizabeth I of England. Her son James became the first joint ruler of Scotland and England in 1603. The bronze statue, which is being constructed in Edinburgh, will be placed at Linlithgow Palace, where Mary was born in 1542. Read more: bbc.co.uk
