Passengers from New Delhi railway station are facing severe delays today after fire ravaged a maintenance yard in the Indian capital. The cause of the fire is unexplained, but many carriages from the Rajdhani express trains to Bhubaneswar and Kolkata were destroyed. The trains were empty at the time and no casualties have been reported but overhead powerlines have been disconnected as a precaution and delays are expected throughout the day. The Rajdhani express network was established in the 1960s to provide high-speed connections between Delhi and other major cities across India, and Rajdhani trains are popular with tourists for overnight long distance trips across the country.
