Singapore’s Changi Airport has been named ‘world’s best airport’ for the sixth consecutive year

At this stage, it would probably be more surprising if it didn’t win, given that Singapore’s Changi Airport has been named the “world’s best airport” for the sixth consecutive year. Then again, it offers weary travellers a rooftop swimming pool, a butterfly garden and 24-hour free cinemas to unwind in, so we can see why it keeps clinching the title.

This is the ninth time the Singapore airport has come top in the World Airport Awards by research group Skytrax since 2000. The result was based on 13.73 million survey questionnaires across more than 500 airports worldwide, taking place between August 2017 and February 2018. “To be voted the world’s best airport for the sixth consecutive year is a fabulous achievement for Changi Airport, and this award yet again demonstrates the airport’s popularity with international air travellers,” says Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax.

Changi was also named the best airport for leisure amenities. Passengers with some time to kill can check out the pockets of lush greenery scattered throughout the three terminals, which are easily accessible by the airport’s Skytrains. These include an orchid garden, cactus garden and sunflower garden. There are two free movie theatres and an entertainment deck that has everything from the Xbox360 to Kinect stations. Events and pop-ups also run regularly at the airport.

They can also spend time in the butterfly garden, which is the first one of its kind to be located in an airport. It has a six-metre waterfall in its grotto and 1000 tropical butterflies, and there are educational corners and individual enclosures to let passengers witness the breeding and feeding of butterflies at close range.
