New boutique accommodation in the Vaud region of Switzerland aims to bring the concept of the ‘ski hotel’ to the next level; by allowing guests to ski down to slopes straight from the roof.
Hôtel des Horlogers will sit in the unspoiled Vallée de Joux, nestled between the Jura Mountains Ranges. The luxury hotel is designed to reflect the surrounding pastoral landscape and complement the nearby museum.
Most excitingly, guests can ski straight from the roof onto the local ski trails below. Instead of traditional floors, there are zig-zag slopes in front of the hotel. As well as providing a unique way to get to the slopes, they also connect the hotel amenities.
Inside the hotel, guests can explore the hotel via an internal version of the sloping corridor, which will connect the 50 guest rooms. The building is designed in such a way that the major guest amenities – including the restaurants, bar, spa and conference centre – will get the best of the daylight hours and beautiful views. These will also be accessible by the outer path.
As well as being an attractive lodging for keen skiers, as the name suggests it will also be on the wishlist for many horologists. The hotel is being designed for luxury watchmakers Audemars Piguet who have their museum nearby. Easily accessible by hotel guests, it’s an important private collection in the watch world but is itself a design marvel. Designed by the same architects as the new hotel, it has a spiral roof created to reflect the craftsmanship of Swiss watches.
Hôtel des Horlogers is currently under construction and expects to welcome its first guests in 2020.
