This Las Vegas casino is expecting a full house for its new poker master class

An old poker proverb says, “if you’ve been at the table for 30 minutes and can’t spot the sucker, it’s you.” Luckily the Wynn Las Vegas is offering a chance for poker novices to learn their flushes from their full houses. A new poker master class called “Perfecting your poker face” will be held on 20 July, and features instruction on how wannabe-card-sharks can run the table.

Led by Wynn’s director of poker operations, Ryan Beauregard, the course takes learners through the basics of poker – like the rules of the game, how to feel at ease when sitting down at a table, as well as other strategies to defeat your opponents. The aim of the course is to enlighten those who have played casual games around a kitchen table, but might be timid when it comes to hands dealt in a casino. The class is $125 per person, and participants must be 21 or older.

“Perfecting Your Poker Face” is part of a series of master classes at Wynn, which also includes “Master bread baking” led by artisan breadmaker, Johan Willar, “Sommelier for a day” with director of wine, Mark Thomas, and “Brewmaster class” instructed by executives from Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. Courses later this summer include a seminar with an oddsmaker who runs the race and sports book operations, as well as a sushi class from chefs at onsite Mizumi restaurant.

What else is there to do at the Wynn?

The Wynn’s elegant, sprawling casino is a popular draw for poker pros. Nearby, there are slot machines from a penny up to $5000 a pull, a chic race and sports book, and a full menu of table games (generally with high minimum bets). Seasonal blackjack and craps are played at poolside tables. Exclusive nightlife options include XS, Intrigue and Encore Beach Club.

Wynn’s well-received production Le Rêve the Dream was produced by acclaimed director Franco Dragone. The show features underwater acrobatic stunts in a one-million-gallon swimming pool.
