Imbros Gorge
If hiking the Samaria Gorge sounds like too much for you, Then Crete comes up with another, easier option, The Imbros Gorge. Walking this 8 kilometre ravine is less strenuous but it’s still something special. Drink in the view over the White Mountains as we head up to the starting point, the mountain village on Imbros. Here, you’ll set off on your two to three hour hike, following footpaths and cobbled trails. Keep watch for Crete’s “kri-kri” wild goats as you go. And reach for your camera at the most spectacular section, where everything narrows into a 2 metre passageway twisting steep, 300 ft walls. The Imbros opens onto the sea at the village of Komitades, where you can relax over drinks at a taverna before continuing to nearby Frangokastello. Famous for its 14th centrury Venetian castle;you’ll have extra time here for a swim or to buy lunch before we head home.
